Why it happens

When you quit smoking you are cutting off your brains supply of a chemical called acetylcholine. This chemical is what non smokers brains use to stay awake and alert! When you stop smoking your brain has less power to fight off drowsiness and you become fatigued.

Exercise

The key to exercise helping you overcome the fatigue you’re experiencing is to do it everyday. Taking short walks is one of the simplest activities you can do to get into the swing of exercising daily. Not only will it improve your overall mood but it will help you feel more energetic overtime.

Avoid Caffeine

If you can’t start your day without a cup of coffee fear not, you can still have caffeine while quitting smoking but keep your intake to a minimum. The reason is because as your body is getting back to normal levels of acetylcholine, and drinking caffeine during the day may keep you up at night as well.

Rest when you need it

Listen to your body. You feel tired and fatigued for a reason, so don’t try and push yourself too hard. Sleep is a vital to your health and motivation to quit smoking. Don’t count out sleep in your daily routine.

Drink water

Water is cleansing for not only your body but your mind. When you are dehydrated it drags your mood down and impairs your ability to think clearly. Make sure you’re getting your 8 cups a day.

Eat healthy

You are what you eat! When you’re quitting smoking your brain and body need nutrients to heal. So instead of reaching for the cookies, instead grab a banana, avocado or nuts. Sometimes eating healthy isn’t the easiest, but you can supplement with vitamins and minerals to ensure your body is getting the nutrients it needs while you quit smoking.
